Elf Hits The West End, Again!
We’re now a fair way through October and that means we now have to start thinking about how close Christmas is. We all have our favourite Christmas Films and whenever this topic is brought up there is always one film that will come up first, Elf. We all rejoice at the thought of watching Elf, snuggled up in a blanket with some good hot chocolate, it’s what christmas was made for. Clearly there are some Elf fanatics out there who really wanted to bring out Buddy’s charm and personality and what better way to do that than put it on stage. That’s right, Elf Hits The West End, again!
Based on the 2003 hit film starring Will Ferrell, Elf features songs written by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, and book by Tony Winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin. Opening on the 24th of October at the Dominion Theatre, Elf tells the tale of Buddy, a human raised by elves to think he is an elf. It is revealed to Buddy, by Santa himself, that he is actually a human. Buddy has to face up to the fact that his human size does not compete well with the elf lifestyle. So, he embarks on a magical journey to New York to find his real father, only to find his father is not quite what he was expecting. Buddy sets a goal to make not only his father, but, the whole of New York remember the true meaning of christmas and to feel the christmas spirit once again.
Even as a film, this story has a lot going on, I can’t wait to see how they are going to transfer the magic and energy from screen to stage. Do you have a family favorite Christmas film that you would like to see on stage?
