Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
On Friday 23rd October, Pottermore, the official J.K Rowling, Harry Potter, website announced that there would be an eighth Harry Potter story, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child and that it would take to the stage. Based upon a new original story by J.K.Rowling, the show will feature a cast of 30 however casting will be announced later on.
Pottermore also released the official synopsis for the show;
‘It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.’
On the official Harry Potter show website they have released their full creative team, and I thought i’d share that with you here;
Seeing the creative team list gets me rather excited, as a Harry Potter fan, to see that J.K. Rowling herself has worked on and with a great team to create the show makes the anticipation even harder. You can also see that Imogen Heap is the composer of the show, I love her style of music, and her widely popular song ‘Hide and Seek’ is at the top of my playlist. As a Grammy nominee and Ivor Novello Award winner, I can’t wait to listen to the soundtrack and see how she has interpreted the phenomenon that is Harry Potter.
Tickets are available to book from their website, in order to buy tickets you must wait in a virtual queue, but don’t worry they give you a time estimate! After reading into the show it appears that it will actually be show in two separate parts, Part 1 and Part 2, you can buy tickets to watch the them as either a matinee and evening performance on the same day, or you can buy individual day tickets, it’s up to you. This is one of the first shows I’ve ever heard of that has done this kind of two stage performance, I think it’s quite an innovative way to display theatre, and I’m sure it’s not going to hurt their income. By showing it in two parts, the chances are almost everyone will come back again at some point to watch the second show, therefore generating a lot more ticket sales.
With their first performance of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child in 208 days from today, on the 7th of June, you can guarantee tickets will sell out fast, so if you’re a Harry Potter fan like me, I suggest we buy I tickets sooner rather than later!
