Wonder.land
Wonder.land, is inspired by the great author Lewis Carroll, and his world famous book ‘Alice in Wonderland’. This is a novelty childhood story and creator Damon Albarn, who is known for his talents in famous band Gorillaz, and his new team have taken on the nostalgia and brought this classic story into the modern world. Using innovative digital techniques, including video projections and lighting, we see this old tale brought into the 21st Century. Exploring Alice in a new light, this new musical touches on teenage issues, and the mysteries and dangers of the online world. Turning this world famous classic into a techno stage show, they’ve adapted the story ever so slightly.
‘Aly is struggling with all the pressures of being a teenager: family, school, friends and her own insecurities. Then she discovers wonder.land – a mysterious online world where, perhaps, she can create a whole new life. The web becomes her looking-glass – but will Aly see who she really is? Combining live theatre and digital technology in dazzling new ways, wonder.land is brought to life on stage by an extraordinary creative team. With stunning sets, costumes, video projection and lighting, and a score by Blur’s Damon Albarn, this is a musical like no other: an Alice for the online generation.’
Wonder.land is turning this classic story into a brand new, more modern form should definitely bring in an excited audience. Touching on subjects more well known to society nowadays, this musical should appeal to a much larger range of audience, it seems appropriate for teenage and more mature, adult audiences.
